Promoting Scottish Country Dancing

Since its inception in 1988, the Branch has been involved in promoting Scottish country dancing in Canberra and the ACT by holding classes and teaching the richness of this form of set dancing, generating knowledge and enthusiasm for this unique style of dancing. The Branch participates in Scottish and Celtic events held in Australia throughout the year [Covid permitting] (see the Events calendar), including the National Multicultural Festival, the National Folk Festival, Floriade, the Brigadoon Highland Gathering in the Southern Highlands and members travel to participate in Winter and Summer Schools across Australia and internationally.

The Branch holds regular events throughout the year including an annual Picnic Dance in February, a Tea Dance in May and other social gatherings such as Dancing into Autumn, Spring Fling, Young Dancers Socials and the annual Canberra Ball.

The Branch also supports the development of qualified Scottish Country Dancing teachers and engages with other branches to facilitate support for dancers wishing to study and qualify as SCD teachers. It also facilitates DAA (Dancer Achievement Awards) for dancers who want to develop their expertise in Scottish Country Dancing.
