2021 Mini School CANCELLED

Presented by RSCDS Canberra & District Branch

The COVID situation has led us to decide that, regrettably, we have to cancel

Join us in Canberra for a wonderful Mini-School this Spring.

We are very pleased to announce a scaled down school this year, encompassing many of the aspects of a usual winter school,
with technique classes and classes for musicians starting Thursday 30 September to Sunday 3 October!

This page gives information on what the mini school offers and how to register.
Join us for a great weekend of leaning, fun and socialising with friends and meeting new dancers!

Covid-19 has unfortunately curtailed many activities, including dancing, over the past year and our Winter School could not go ahead as planned. We hope that this boutique event will inspire you to join us at our new dancing and music event. Due to the ongoing challenges of planning while we still live with Covid, we are not providing accommodation or meals, apart from supper at our evening dance events and brunch on Sunday. Click on the brochure image for more detail.

When your registration is received it will be acknowledged, however in view of the ongoing uncertainty caused by Covid we will not request payment immediately. The Mini School Registrar will send you an email requesting payment when we are are more confident the school will proceed.

Classes:

Developing/intermediate: This class is designed for those with some experience in Scottish Country Dancing, who are still developing their skills around the intermediate level. Join in this class to polish and refine common formations and steps, while also dancing socially with others and having lots of fun!

Advanced low impact: The emphasis in this class will be on the overall execution of dances.  Participants must be competent dancers with a good grasp of steps and formations and the conventions of Scottish Country Dancing, who do not want, or cannot sustain, high intensity technique practice.  However, dancers must be prepared for low impact practice and revision (‘memory jogging’).

Advanced high impact: This class is aimed at those who are capable of dancing all steps and formations with good technique. The aims are to improve steps with the option of personal critique, work on some of the more advanced formations and enjoy a few high energy dances.

Music workshops: 3 sessions with Chris Duncan, “How to play for a dance”, “How to play for a class” and “Putting it into practice”.
